Richard Bernard Skelton & 4th of July

July 4, 2010

Red Skelton was born in July 18, 1913 and passed away on September 17, 1997.   He left home at 15 to perform in a traveling medicine show and built an amazing career making people laugh.

I’m sure many of you know who he was and for those who don’t you missed something very special.  His television show first aired in 1951 and he won 2 Emmey’s during the show’s run.  I can recall setting in front of our TV with my mom and dad, all of us laughing out loud.

His professional life was one of comedy but to me his most remarkable performance occurred on January 14, 1969 when he showed his love of country.  Here is the video of that show and nothing is more appropriate on the birthday of our counties independence.

Enjoy, and Happy Independence Day.
